May Meeting

The Red Lion Area Historical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting on May 25, 2017. The featured speaker will be railroad buff, Walter Holloway. He will share the history of the narrow gauge railroads. They eventually were merged to create the famous Ma and Pa Railway that was so influential in the growth of the communities of southern York County.

The meeting will be held at St John’s UCC, 161 North Main Street, Red Lion, at 7:00 pm. Entrance is off the parking lot behind the church. All meetings are free and open to the public.

Our February Meeting

Please join us on February 23, 2017, for our annual Show and Tell program.  Bring an item that you can share with the group. It doesn’t have to be antique or have great monetary value; it only has to be something that you find interesting.  We’ll have our expert, Mr. Bob Frutiger, on hand to add his thoughts and answer any questions.  Our meetings begin at 7:00 pm and are held at St John’s UCC, North Main Street, Red Lion. Parking is behind the church. We’ll cancel if Red Lion schools are canceled for a snow day.

Our January Meeting

Our first meeting of 2017 will be held on January 26, at 7:00 pm. Our own historian, Jan Barnhart, will give a slideshow presentation. Our Society has a fascinating collection of old photographs. We will view some of the more interesting ones that are rarely seen. They chronicle the history of the Red Lion area with pictures of buildings, events and people.

All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are held at St. John UCC on North Main St and begin at 7:00 P.M. Parking is available off the alley behind the church. The lot can be accessed via East Gay Street.

Cancellation Policy: Our monthly meetings will be cancelled if the Red Lion School District cancels or dismisses school early on the day of the meeting. If school is only delayed, we will meet as scheduled.

Upcoming Monthly Society Meetings

dacOn November 17, 2016, members of the Daughters of the American Colonists will be present to speak to us about their group and also why our history and genealogies are so important. Their key point is that by understanding where we have been in the past guides us in where we go in the future.
